I was born in Yorkshire in 1962 and grew up in Richmond, although I spent some of my pre-school years living in Tobermory on the Isle of Mull and in Spain.

It was at the age of 14 that I joined my first band and did my first paid gig in 1977 (£2.00 between the band and a Mars bar each)! Undaunted I have gone on to perform with many bands, playing many different styles of music, from folk to country to rock, blues and soul.

In the early 80’s I worked with Richmond violin makers “Milner and Hallows”, who taught me instrument making and restoration. By mid 1986 I was ready to start my own business “Errington Guitars”. Joined by guitarist Dave Harris in 1990, then later by Richard Turnock and Mark Wood, the Errington Electric mandolin was born. Users of this instrument include Decon Blue, Magna Carta, Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Tich, The Whisky Priests and around 300 others around the world.

I married my wife Dawn in 1996. An Artist and Art Teacher, her fantastic work can be seen on her website.

After the birth of my son William I decided to work from home to combine looking after him and concentrating on instrument repair. No longer a retail shop, Errington Guitars became Nigel’s Guitar Workshop, working from Brompton village near Northallerton.

In 2003 Dawn, Will and I moved to my family house in Richmond, from where I now work.

I currently play guitar with The Atlantic Soul Messengers and The Buckleye Band.
